Journal Fodder 365 - prompt #2

Prompt #2 on my journey through Journal Fodder 365 is 'pivotal people'

When I think of pivotal people in my life I have to include my parents, whose influence is still going on now. I think of teachers, especially those in science, who encouraged me even though my primary school didn't cover science so the whole thing was new to me. In the end I studied zoology at Sheffield University.

I think of all those artists who are generous with their gifts and skills and willingly and freely share what they have learned, whether through books, videos, or in person, and so help me to explore my creativity.

But there are also those people whose influence has been negative. Unfortunately, negative experiences can be the most long-lasting. I think in this case of the bullies I encountered at school who even now can be the root of negative thoughts whenever I have to interact in a group setting, especially with people I don't know.

Other people can clip your wings or be the air under them that helps you to fly.

Which are you going to be?

  1. this is really beautiful Tracy. I've learned to let go of the people who are toxic and/ or drained me of my energy. Here from CED

  3. A beautiful page, the Dove and shades of blue are gorgeous.

As a victim of school yard bullying I can relate to the negative taking a longer hold on us and remaining an influence even now many many years on. I sometimes wonder if those who did the bullying ever stop to think of the damage they caused ? Probably not

  5. I was never realy bullied in school, but I never realy fit in either. I do try to only let the people influence me who are honest and true. Also I do like to live my life after something my mother an grandmother used to say: "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all". I think I got that message over to my kids as well. So stay strong, believe in yourself and let the negative people sit in their own negativity.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend.

  6. I have a friend who describes people as either radiators or drains. I hope I'm a radiator and I used to go out of my away to avoid the drains. but recently I realised that sometimes people just need you to listen to them and their issues and listening is a really easy gift we can give.
Drains are different though from the people described above who deliberately attack or undermine your self-confidence.
    Thanks for the thought-provoking post.
