February's theme is love and the reference for this week is Matthew 22:34-40
But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him. "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?" And he said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbour as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets." (ESV)These two things are inextricably linked. Jesus didn't pick just one thing to answer the lawyer with, and Jesus wasn't one to waste words.
The word 'depend' can also mean 'hang'. If we love God but not each other, do we really love God? If we don't love God AND love each other, we hang askew.
So love that neighbour, even when it's difficult, and hang straight.
Wonderful spread Tracy!
